Weekend in Cannon Beach, Oregon

We took a weekend trip to the Oregon Coast and spent some time in Cannon Beach — a small coastal town known for its dramatic shoreline, laid-back energy, and love for dogs. It turned out to be one of the most welcoming and dog-friendly places we’ve been.
Cannon Beach sits about 80 miles west of Portland and is famous for Haystack Rock, a 235-foot sea stack rising from the beach — one of the most photographed landmarks in Oregon. The beach stretches for miles, with wide sandy areas perfect for long walks, and most shops and restaurants are happy to have dogs join outside.
The dogs loved every minute — chasing waves, meeting new friends, and wandering the quiet side streets that smell faintly of salt and pine.
Here are a few of our favorite stops along the way:
@cbwineshack — a local wine shop with a thoughtful selection and genuinely kind people who helped us find a few bottles to take home.
@thebistrocannonbeach — cozy and inviting, with great food and friendly staff.
@screwandbrewcb — a bar and hardware store in one. Only in Cannon Beach.
@antlerandalder — a beautifully curated shop in the center of town with simple, well-made pieces that fit the local coastal style.
@fourpawsonthebeach — a must-visit for dog lovers. Great selection of treats, toys, and even T-shirts for humans.
On the way home, we stopped in Tillamook at @blueheronfrenchcheesecompany — known for their sandwiches, cheeses, and friendly service.
The trip reminded us why Oregon’s coast is so special — it’s simple, unhurried, and full of places that feel connected to both nature and community.
If you’re looking for a weekend away that your dogs will love as much as you do, Cannon Beach is worth the drive.
Tips for visiting Cannon Beach with dogs:
Dogs are allowed off-leash on the beach, as long as they’re under voice control.
Most restaurants offer outdoor seating where dogs are welcome.
The best times to visit are spring through early fall for warmer weather and longer days.
